About Breaking Down Barriers

Breaking Down Barriersis a photographic project that sheds light on marginalised groups who have come together to form their own diverse community, breaking down the barriers that have been restricting them in society to make an accepting society for all. No Holds Barred is a diverse inclusive community in Brighton that wants to create social change in their environment by creating spaces to learn and ascertain new skills, and bridge the gap between the hearing and non-hearing world through their various workshops. By joining together in these spaces they show strength, positivity and resilience and create learning environments where they can exist together and enrich their lives. Their aim is to create spaces that are inclusive for all communities such as LGBTQ+, single parents, deaf and disabled societies who do not have adequate access to services in the greater community. This project explores the need for these communities to come together and the relationship they have to the spaces in which they conjugate. The aesthetic style of the photographs aims to reflect the merging of these communities together, and how together they are stronger.Breaking Down Barriers explores the relevance of these communities today, and cements the importance of communities to come together and create a more inclusive society.
